How do I know if I need a sleep study?
Our sleep specialists can review your symptoms and sleep habits in an extensive interview with you for the purpose of advising you regarding the need for a sleep study. However, if you have answered yes to any of the questions in the sleep questionaire, if you can't sleep, if you can't go to sleep, or if you can't stay asleep; you probably need a sleep study.
Does insurance cover the cost of a sleep study?
Most insurance plans cover the cost of a sleep study. We at Sleep Centers of Texas will confirm you insurance coverage or you can call your insurance company for that information.
What is a sleep study?
You will sleep in our lab at your normal sleep time. During the process we will record many body functions such as eye movements, breathing patterns, brain waves, heart rate and rhythm, oxygen levels, sleep time, sleep stages, leg movements and others. This is done by electrodes attached to the your body. It is painless. There are no needles. You will be observed all night while the data is recorded and technician notes any events. After your nights sleep, the data will analyzed to determine any disorder.
Will I be able to work the next day?
You are sleeping similliar to the way you would at home. You can go to work as normal.
How are sleep disorders treated?
Various sleep disorders are treated in different ways. It is premature to speculate regarding treatment until a sleep study determines your disorder or the combination of disorders. Our sleep specialist will discuss the treatment options with you in detail.
Will I have to wear one of those CPAP machines?
The CPAP machine is used to treat the most common sleep disorder - Sleep Apnea. However, other treatment options are available and may be applicable.
